Director's Note

I had the fortune of seeing the third preview of the original Broadway production of Carrie in 1988. Twenty years later, I wrote the first email to my agent, John Buzzetti, expressing my interest in directing a one-night-only concert; four years after that I directed a full production of Carrie at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in New York City.

The complicated history of the musical from the original Stratford production to the short-lived Broadway production brought a tremendous amount of pressure on every person involved in the revival. The joy in that pressure was that everyone connected to the production was committed to bring to life this iconic story by Stephen King with new ideas and a fresh perspective. What an extraordinary journey on an extraordinary musical.
