Director's Note

This project came to me when the director Lonny Price emailed to ask if I was available to direct Sondheim’s Saturday Night, which he couldn’t work on due to a conflict. The York Theatre Company in NYC wanted a staged-concert version of the show as part of its Musicals in Mufti series. I jumped at the chance.

Working with the legendary musical director and Sondheim collaborator Paul Gemignani on the first musical written by Sondheim was a dream come true. I will never forget my note sessions and email exchanges with Mr. Sondheim about the run-through he had witnessed and how best to adjust elements of the performances.

Thanks, Lonny, for being busy!
