The Huntington announced that "Bhangin' It" will have its second production in the Huntington's 2022/23 season.

Theatre Calgary announced its 2022/23 season, which included the World Premiere of "Forgiveness," adapted from Mark Sakamoto's novel by Hiro Kanagawa. Arima will direct the play at the Arts Club and Theatre Calgary. 


February 24, 2022

The World Premiere presentation of a newly revised concert-production of "Ragtime" will debut in Calgary, Canada in a joint production with Theatre Calgary, the Calgary Philharmonic, and Arts Commons Presents.

For the first time in its history, Theatre Calgary is giving all of Calgary and surrounding area a hand in choosing a production for the 2022-23 season. Calgary's Choice is an innovative way to give everyone a choice between six nominated shows, with voting running from January 24th - February 6th.

The La Jolla Playhouse announced today that Stafford Arima will be directing the World-Premiere of "Bhangin' It - A Bangin' New Musical." Winner of the Richard Rodgers Award, "Bhangin' It" - book by Mike Lew and Rehana Lew Mirza, music and lyrics by Sam Willmott, and additional music by Deep Singh - is an exhilarating new musical that celebrates the traditions we inherit from yesterday and those we create for tomorrow.

Rehearsals commence for Theatre Calgary's brand new production of "A Christmas Carol" (abridged adaptation by Geoffrey Simon Brown) directed by Stafford Arima. "Carol" opens, live and in person, on December 2, 2021.


October 29, 2021

The Old Globe announced today that a newly commissioned adaptation of "Dial M For Murder" by Jeffrey Hatcher will make its World Premiere in the Globe's 22/23 season. Stafford Arima will direct.


September 2, 2021

Today, Theatre Calgary announced its abridged 2021/22 season. Opening the season is the World Premiere of Rick Miller's "Boom YZ" followed by "A Christmas Carol" , "Steel Magnolias" and "Million Dollar Quartet".

Theatre Calgary announced it is implementing a brand new vaccination policy for the theatre. Starting Sept. 20, Theatre Calgary will require audience members to show proof of vaccination. Those who cannot be vaccinated can show a negative privately-bought COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours.

The Alberta Media Production Industries Association (AMPIA) is pleased to announce their finalists for the 47th annual Alberta Film & Television Awards, celebrating excellence and outstanding achievement in Alberta's screen industries. Theatre Calgary's production of "A Christmas Carol" was nominated in 6 categories including Best Director for Arima.

"Theatre Calgary Sings for Pride" is a show-stopping greatest-hits concert of well-known songs from musical theatre. Directed by Theatre Calgary's artistic director, Stafford Arima, and featuring a sparkling cast of Calgary performers from 2SLGBTQ+ and IBPOC communities, this outdoor concert will celebrate Calgary's PRIDE with song and dance.

A private, developmental reading of "Maudie - The Musical" (based on the film, "Maudie" starring Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke) was held in Toronto. Sarah Slean is the composer and lyricist, Kent Staines is the librettist, Paul Sportelli is the music director, and Stafford Arima is attached as director.
