Tituss Burgess, best known for playing Titus Andromedon in the Netflix comedy series "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," has acquired the Broadway rights to the 1996 film "The Preacher's Wife." This new musical version of the story, featuring music and lyrics by Burgess, book by Daniel Beaty will have an industry reading on September 12. Directed by Stafford Arima, the reading will feature Loretta Devine (Dreamgirls), Quentin Earl Darrington (Cats), Chester Gregory (Motown) and Grammy Award-nominee recording artist, Ledisi. Musical direction will be by James Sampliner.
The Flea Theater has announced plans to present Two Class Acts: A Festival Celebrating A.R. Gurney. The festival will include two world-premiere one-act plays entitled Squash and Ajax directed by Stafford Arima. Previews begin October 10. The cast for Squash features Dan Amboyer, Nicole Lowrance and Rodney Richardson; the production of Ajax will feature members of the Bats (the Flea's resident acting company) in a rotating cast that includes Olivia Jampol, Rachel Lin, Ben Lorenz and Chris Tabet. The creative team features Jason Sherwood (set design), Jake DeGroot (lighting design), Sky Switser (costume design) and Miles Polaski (sound design). These two plays will be the final productions at the Flea's home on White Street, before the company moves to its new facilities.

Broadway alum and UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace & Reconciliation, Oscar winner Forest Whitaker is set to host the "Performers4Peace" benefit concert May 9 in New York City. The event will feature performances by Broadway artists to support the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative's work in peace and community building. The concert will be music-directed by Annastasia Victory. Olivier Award nominee Stafford Arima will direct.
The Stage Directors and Choreographers Society announced the Standout Moments of the 2015-2016 Season, a new program of recognition focused on the contributions directors and choreographers make every day to create a more inclusive, diverse theatre. Stafford Arima was recognized for tirelessly advocating for and guiding "Allegiance's" move to Broadway.
The Broadway Dreams Foundation (BDF) is bringing its unique brand of Broadway master class intensives to Russia. In a landmark collaboration between BDF, the U.S. Embassy, Broadway Moscow, Stage Entertainment Russia, and Mikhail Shvydkoy (Russia's Special Presidential Representative for International Cultural Cooperation) this collaboration will mark the first time in Russia's history that Broadway professionals will offer programming of this kind. The workshop will culminate in a final showcase on the stage of the Rossiya Theatre.
